SOUTH NORTHAMPTONSHIRE

Additions : 1974 Brackley Borough, Brackley Rural District, Towcester Rural District and most of Northampton Rural District

Origin/meaning :
The gold lion is taken from the device of Brackley. It is surrounded by golden garbs for the rural districts merged with the Borough. Garbs also appeared in the device of Towcester RDC and the arms of Northampton RDC, and also occur in the arms of the Hesketh family.

The crest is based on one of the two crests of Lord Hesketh with the addition of two red roses from the arms of Northampton RDC and Northamptonshire County Council.

The motto is HORA E SEMPRE.
