HAMBLETON

Additions : 1974 Northallerton, the Rural Districts of Bedale, Easingwold, Northallerton and Thirsk, and parts of Croft and Stokesley Rural Districts .

Origin/meaning :
Of the various Councils combined in 1974 to form Hambleton, only Northallerton had arms. The Hambleton arms continue the blue and gold colours of Northallerton UDC's arms. The white and green wavy barrulets represent the hills and rivers of the district. The white roses are the emblem of Yorkshire, while the Estoile is from the arms of Captain Cook, who was associated with the Stokesley area.

The crest has a wild boar astride three hills standing among oak trees. This represents Galtres Forest. The boar supports a Yorkshire rose.

The dexter supporter is a local breed of horse. This suggests horse racing, as well as the White Horse carved into the hillside at Kilburn. The sinister supporter is a ram for agriculture.
