GEDLING Additions : 1974 Arnold, Carlton Origin/meaning : The oak tree alludes to the arms of Nottingahmshire as well as the Sherwood Forest in the council. The chief consists of a pattern of silver and black diamonds and refers to the coal mining. The garbs symbolises agriculture. The crest shows a torch as a symbol for the industry. The two arrows are taken from the old arms of Arnold and allude to the Sherwood connection. The stag supporter is taken from the arms of Nottingahmshire. The bear supporter is taken from the unofficial device formerly used by Basford. The motto means "The best for all." Literature : Gedling Official Guide (send by the Gedling Council)
