CHARNWOOD
Additions : 1974 Loughborough Municipal Borough, Shepshed Urban District, Barrow upon Soar Rural District Council
Origin/meaning :
Upon local government reorganisation in England and Wales on Ist April 1974, the formers were amalgamated to become the new Borough of Charnwood. Of the three amalgamating authorities, only Loughborough had a coat of arms, and this was based upon a design incorporating the heraldic devices of families who had owned the old Manors of Loughborough and Barrow. The new Borough of Charnwood has therefore continued to use the Loughborough Coat of Arms
