Suomen Kunnallisvaakunat - Finlands Kommunvapen Finnish Civic Heraldry OULU Origin/meaning: The arms were granted on February 11, 1954. The arms are based on the old arms of the town, which are based on the seal of Oulu. The upper part shows the local castle, built in 1590.
