WILHERMSDORF

State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Fürth (until 1973 Neustadt an der Aisch)

Origin/meaning:
The first known arms were devised in 1571 by Heinrich Hermann Lord of Wilhermsdorf. These arms showed three water-lilies coming form the same root in the base of the shield (derived from his personal arms), with a falcon-like bird above these. Whether these arms were ever really used by the village is not clear. The seal of the local council dating from 1581 does not show these arms, but a single star. In the 19th century the council wanted to adopt arms, but did not know any longer about the oldest arms. The above arms were thus newly devised and granted on May 27, 1926. The upper part shows the diamonds taken from the arms of the 16th century Lords of Wilhermsdorf, the lower part shows the town's initial in the colours of Bayern.

Literature : Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes; Hupp, O: Kaffee Hag albums, 1920s
