VERL
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Gütersloh
Additions : 1970 Amt Verl, Bornholte, Österwiehe, Sende, Schloß Holte (partly), Varensell (partly)
 Origin/meaning:
The arms are a combination of the arms of Verl and the Amt Verl.
The arms symbolise the 5 different municipalities in the former Amt and the oak trees symbolise the many forests in the area. At the same time the oaks are a canting symbol, as the name is derived from Verlo, or four forests. The old arms of Verl, see image below, were granted on June 24, 1938 and showed only the four oak trees.
