VELLBERG
District (Kreis) : Schwäbisch Hall
State : Baden-Württemberg
  Origin/meaning:
Vellberg received city rights in 1500, but the city never used any seals. The oldest use of arms dates from the 19th century and the arms showed a house on a hill (above left).
The present arms (above right) were granted on Oictober 28, 1936 and are a combination of the wing taken from the arms of the Counts of Flügelau (Flügel=wing) and a free quarter derived from the arms of the Lords of Vellberg. Vellberg was a possession of the Counts of Flügelau until 1318. The Lords of Vellberg actually ruled the town as vassals of the counts.
