TROCHTELFINGEN

State : Baden-Württemberg
District (Kreis) : Reutlingen (Until 1973 Sigmaringen)
Additions : 1972 Hausen an der Lauchert; 1974 Wilsingen; 1975 Mägerkingen, Steinhilben

Origin/meaning:
The oldest seal of the city dates from 1322 and shows the local patron saint St. Martin cutting his cloak for a beggar. No further seals are known until 1900, when the seals showed St. Mauritius. The saint was already shown on the local city fountain from 1779 and remained in the seals until 1957.
The arms above left were granted in 1958 and show a typical cross and a bordure. The origin of the cross is not known but it appears as the symbol for the city on the city hall in 1747. The bordure is derived from the arms of the Lords of Fürstenberg, who ruled the city from 1534-1806 as vassals for the Counts of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen.

The new arms (right) were granted on April 28, 1977.
The new arms combine the old cross with a deer antler. The antler was part of the arms of Hausen, Mägerkingen and Wilsingen.

Literature : Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes; Bardua, 1987.
