TREIA

State : Schleswig-Holstein
District (Kreis) : Schleswig-Flensburg
Amt : Arensharde

Origin/meaning:
The arms were granted on September 26, 1985.

The blue wavy pale in the arms wymbolise the Treene river that runs through the municipality. It is also a canting symbol, as the name of the village is derived from the Danish Træ-Aa, or wood-river, as the area historically was covered with forests. These forests, which still exist in the municipality are symbolised by the oak leaf. The red upper part of the tower in the upper half of the arms symbolises the castle of the Bishop of Sleswig, which was built in the village in the 13th century. Already in medieval times the Bishops levied taxes to cross the river in the village. This is symbolised by the raod, which narrows on the bridge to collect the taxes.
