SPALT
State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Schwabach
 Origin/meaning:
The arms were officially granted in 1965, but are based on much older images. The oldest known seals of Spalt date from 1337-1669 and show already a church. The church is most likely the local St. Emmeram church. In the first half of the 16th century a wolf appears next to the tree in front of the church. The wolf is derived from a local story in which a wolf was caught in a crack (Spalt) of a tree near the city. This image was used on seals and as arms until the late 19th century, when the wolf was again removed. The colours were never formally described until 1965 and many differently coloured images exist.
