Origin/meaning:
The arms show the image of St. George, killing the dragon. On the image above left the horse is silver and these are the arms as shown in the 1980s. The upper right image, with the black horse are the arms as used today by the city.
St. George is the patron saint of the city and he already appeared on the oldest known seal of the city, dating from 1483. All later seals show the same composition, but sometimes the horse and knight is shown to face left instead of right.
