SAALBURG
State : Thüringen
District (Kreis) : Saale-Orla Kreis
Additions : 1994 Raila
Indorporated into : 2003 Saalburg-Ebersdorf
Origin/meaning:
The arms were officially granted in 1942, but are based on the oldest seal of the city, known since 1387. The lion is the lion of Plauen. The tower was part of the local castle and was destroyed in 1913. The base shows the position of the city on the Saale river. Until 1935 the seal showed a man in the boat.
In 1982 the arms were shown in different colours:

Seal from the city from around 1900.

The arms as shown by Hupp in the 1920s.
