Origin/meaning:
The two lilies in the upper half are the symbol of St. Mary and symbolise the Mariae Heimsuchung chapel on the Findelberg in the municipality, a well-known pilgrimage site, as well as the local church, devoted to St. Mary.
The cross in the upper half is taken from the arms of the medieval Counts von Wildberg, who played a major role in the area until 1300.
The base is taken from the arms of the Marschalke von Ostheim, who ruled the village of Waltershausen from 1456-1782.
The colours of the lower half are those of the Counts of Henneberg, those of the upper half of the State of Würzburg. The area belonged until 1803 to the counts and the Archbishops of Würzburg.
