State : Nordrhein-Westfalen ![]() Origin/meaning: The first and fourth quarter show the arms of the Lords of Reede, the oldest known owners of the local castle. The name of the town is also derived from this family. The second quarter shows a weaving tool as a symbol for the textile industry in the town. The third shows a plough as a symbol for the agriculture. The arms of the Van Reede family also appear in the arms of Oudtshoorn, South Africa, as that town was founded by the Van Reede van Oudtshoorn family.
