PRESSECK

District (Kreis) : Kulmbach (Until 1973 Stadtsteinach)

State : Bayern

Origin/meaning:
The arms were granted in 1952 and are based on the oldest seal of the town, dating from the 17th century.
The first quarter shows the lion of the State of Bamberg, to which the town belonged until 1803.
The second quarter shows the Lady Justice, as a symbol for the local court.
The third quarter shows the arms of the Schenk von Stauffenberg family. Bishop Marquard Sebastian of Bamberg (1683-1693) belonged to this family, and it is thus likely that the seal was made during his reign.
The origin or meaning of the fourth quarter is still unknown.
