PATTENSEN
State : Niedersachsen ![]() Origin/meaning: The arms are based on the 14th century seals of the city, that show a city gate with a lion between the towers. The lion is the lion of the Welfen dynasty, who acquired the city in 1350. The arms remained the same until 1890 when a small shield was placed in the gate. The shield at first showed the trefoil of the Counts of Roden, but this dynasty had no relations to the city as it turned out. In 1967 the trefoil was thus replaced by the present shield, the arms of the Counts of Hallermund, who probably founded the city in the 14th century and struck their coins in the city.
