PARCHIM
State : Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
District (Kreis) : Parchim
Origin/meaning:
The arms show the bull's head of Mecklenburg, indicating that the city belonged to the Principality of Mecklenburg. The oldest seal of the city dates from 1293 and already shows the head surrounded by the different other elements, antlers, a fleur-de-lis, two stars and two trefoils. The meaning of these small elements is not known. They may have had a special meaning at the time, but could also simply have been used as decoration and to distinguish the arms form other arms with the bull's head.
Literature : Bensing et al., 1984
