ORANIENBURG
State : Brandenburg
District (Kreis) : Oberhavel

Origin/meaning:
The arms are based on the arms of the city of Bötzow known from 1548. Bötztow was founded in the 13th century and was mentioned as a city in 1350. When the city was acquired in 1650 by Louise van Oranje(-Nassau) the city was renamed to Oranienburg (Oranje = orange in Dutch and Oranien in German). The old city arms showed the fish, for fishing in the Havel river, the tree for the many forests, wheat ears for the agriculture and some reeds for the reed industry (used for roofs) in the city. The above right image shows the arms as adopted in 1980, which are slightly simplified, showing only the fish and oak tree.
