State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
![]() Origin/meaning: ![]() The arms replaced older arms granted in 1939, which were not based on historical arms or seals of the town. These arms showed in blue a silver eagle with on its breast a small shield of silver, with a wavy base and above the base a red city wall with a tower. These arms combined the arms of the Von Schlade family (main shield) with an image of the remnants of the fortifications that were built in the town in the late 16th century. Before 1939 the town already used the Agnus Dei as arms, but these were not officially granted. Literature : Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes; Meijer, 1940
