OBERTHULBA
State : Bayern
Origin/meaning: The town did not have historical arms or seals, so the present arms were devised in 1960. Oberthulba was a possesion of the Prince-Bishops of Würzburg and the arms do represent this. The three silver points are taken from the arms of Franconia (Franken). The bishops used the title of Dukes of Franconia. The crosier also represents the bishops. The cross is a symbol for St. John Baptist, the patron saint of the town. The river in the bottom of the shield symbolises the Thulba river. Literature : Stadler, K. : Deutsche Wappen - Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Angelsachsen Verlag, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
