NEUSTADT IN HOLSTEIN
State : Schleswig-Holstein
Origin/meaning: The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the city, dating from the middle of the 13th century. The seal showed the importance of fishing and sailing on the Krempe, the so-called nettle-leaf is the symbol of the Counts of Holstein, who founded and ruled the city for many centuries. All later seals and images of the arms have shown the same composition, often, however, with a third sailor in the ship, see below. Hupp showed the arms in the 1920s in different colours, and the proposal of 1934, which was granted in a slightly different way.
Literature : Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes; Hupp, O: Kaffee Hag albums, 1920s
