LÜTZEN
State : Sachsen-Anhalt ![]()
Origin/meaning: The arms show the local patron saint of the diocese of Merseburg, to which the city hostorically belonged, St. John Baptist, holding a Bible and the Paschal lamb (Agnus Dei). The composition already appeared on the oldest known seal of the city, dating from before 1500. The colours were not known, Hupp showed the field golden, see below, whereas in the mid 20th century the colours were changed to the image above left. At present the town also seems to use the golden colour again, see image above right. Both images can be seen on the (non-official) site of the city of Lützen)
