LEUN
State : Hessen
Origin/meaning: The crescent is taken from the old seal of Leun, see below. The bridge indicates the importance of the town as a crossing point over the Lahn river. The waves in the base symbolise the Lahn river. The four stars symbolise the four former municipalities; Leun, Biskirchen, Bissenberg and Stockhausen. The oldest seal of the city is known from 1760, but dates from the middle of the 17th century. The seal showed a moon and a swimming duck. The moon is considered a canting element (Leun, from luna, Latin for moon), the duck most likely symbolised the Leuner Becken lake.
