Origin/meaning:
The arms of the city are based on a seal hanging on a document dating from 1371. The basic composition of the arms has not changed since, but the actual shape and design has changed regularly. The small shield supposedly is the arms of the oldest Lords of Leisnig from the 14th century, but the only known image of their arms shows the bend in the other direction.
