LINDAU(LI)
State : Bayern ![]() ![]()
Origin/meaning: The hand in the right part of the arms was the symbol of the imperial convent of Lindau, which owned many estates in the Western part of the district. The banner in the left half is taken from the arms of the Counts of Montfort, who also held many parts of the district. The waves in the base of the arms are a symbol for the Bodensee lake, on which the district borders. The new arms were granted on April 11, 1978. The new arms combine the waves and the arms of Montfort of the old arms with the linden tree of the city of Lindau. The chief is the arms of Bayern, as the area belongs since 1805 to Bayern. Literature : Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes; Linder and Olzog, 1996
