Origin/meaning: The lion is taken from the arms of the State of Bamberg, as the largest part of the district historically belonged to the State of Bamberg. The lower part shows the wickerwork, a traditional handicraft in the district. The new arms shows in the right part the Imperial crown, derived from the arms of the former Staffelstein district. In the old arms the whole image of Emperor Heinrich II was shown. The left part shows the lion of Bamberg, taken from the old arms. Literature : Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes; Stadler, 1990.
