LANDAU in der PFALZ(LD)
State : Rheinland-Pfalz ![]()
Origin/meaning: The arms are a combination of the lion of the Pfalz, the cross of Speyer, grapes as a symbol for the wine-growing in the area and the escutcheon with the arms of the Counts of Leiningen-Dagsburg-Landeck, who founded in 1260 the city of Landau. Both the Lords of the Pfalz and the Monastery of Speyer owned large parts of the district. The white bar with the grapes symbolises the Wienstrasse, that runs through the district. Literature : Stadler, K. : Deutsche Wappen - Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Angelsachsen Verlag, 1964-1971, 8 volumes. |
