AUGSBURG(A)
State : Bayern ![]() ![]()
Origin/meaning: The arms show in the chief the arms of the monastery of Augsburg, which owned large areas in the district. The fleur-de-lis is taken from the arms of the Fugger family, which also owned large parts of the district. The third field shows the arms of the former county Burgau, derived from the arms of the Counts of Berg and Burgau. The new arms were granted on May 15, 1975. The new arms combine the chief from the old arms of Augsburg, with the cross and fleur-de-lis from the old arms of Schwabmünchen. The fleur-de-lis was also part of the old arms. Literature : Stadler, K. : Deutsche Wappen - Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Angelsachsen Verlag, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
