Origin/meaning: The upper part of the arms show the lion of Jülich, as a large part of the district was ruled by the Counts of Jülich. The swan on the antler is taken from the former capital of the district, Burtscheid (now part of Aachen). It is the arms of the counts of Woestenraedt, who owned the city Burtscheid.
