JOHANNGEORGENSTADT

State : Sachsen
District (Kreis) : Erzgebirgskreis (until 2008 Aue-Schwarzenberg (until 1993 Schwarzenberg and from 1951-57 a free urban district)
Additions : 1935 Jugel, Wittigsthal; 1952 Steinbach

Origin/meaning:
The arms most likely date from the end of the 17th century when the city was founded in 1654 by Johann Georg I of Sachsen. The small shield indicate the importance of mining for the city. Hupp showed the arms in different colours in the 1920s, see image below.
