JOHANNESBERG
State : Bayern
Origin/meaning: The sword is used as the symbol for the local parish church, which is devoted to the decapitation of St. John Baptist. The wavy bend is a canting element for several of the villages in the municipality; Rueckersbach, Steinbach, Oberafferbach (Bach=stream, brook). The same holds for the mountains in the base, which are canting for Johannesberg, Sternberg and Breunsberg (Berg=mountain). The wheel is the symbol of the State of Mainz, to which the area belonged for many centuries until 1803. Literature : Information obtained from the Region Unterfranken
