JOHANNESBERG

Origin/meaning:
The arms of Johannesberg were granted on March 22, 1976.

The sword is used as the symbol for the local parish church, which is devoted to the decapitation of St. John Baptist. The wavy bend is a canting element for several of the villages in the municipality; Rueckersbach, Steinbach, Oberafferbach (Bach=stream, brook). The same holds for the mountains in the base, which are canting for Johannesberg, Sternberg and Breunsberg (Berg=mountain). The wheel is the symbol of the State of Mainz, to which the area belonged for many centuries until 1803.
