HOCHHEIM AM MAIN
State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Main-Taunus-Kreis
Additions : 1977 Massenheim
Origin/meaning:
The oldest seals of the town showed St. Martin as the patron saint combined with the arms of the diocese of Mainz, to which the village belonged. The present arms, which were granted in 1908, are based on an old roof-tile dating from 1775. On this tile the arms were painted. The original village sign probably was the cross. The anchor symbolises the sailing on the Main, the hook is a tool used in wine making and the star is a kind of pointed wheel, used for hauling wine barrels.
