HETTSTEDT
State : Sachsen-Anhalt
District (Kreis) : Mansfeld-Südharz (until 2007 Mansfelder Land (until 1994 Hettstedt))
Origin/meaning:
The arms already date from the late 14th century and show as a main figure the local patron saint, St. James (Jakob), wearing his attribute, the shell, on his bag and hat. The saint holds two shields, the one with the red bars shows the arms of the Counts of Mansfeld, the other the quartered shield of the Counts of Quedlinburg, who descended from the Counts of Mansfeld. The Counts of Mansfeld acquired the local castle in 1394 (see also the arms of Mansfelder Land).

Seal of the city from around 1900
