HERRNHUT

District (Kreis) : Löbau-Zittau

Origin/meaning:
The arms were adopted in 1929 and show the small chapel on the Hutberg. The above left arms are those as shown by Hupp in the mid 1930s, the upper right one the arms as used in the 1980s.

Previously the town used arms designed in the 18th century when the village was founded by Waldenser refugees (also known as Herrnhütter). The old seal of the Waldenser movement showed the anvil and hammer.
