HEIDE

 Origin/meaning:
The arms were granted in 1952 and are based on the oldest known seal of the village, dating from 1461. The arms show the patron saint, St. George, killing the dragon, with in the upper left corner a bunch of heath, a canting symbol (Heide=heath). Before 1952 Heide, which received city rights in 1869, used as arms the composition of the second seal, known since 1572. This seal showed an anchor, star, heath and a small cross, see image below. Old images of the arms of Heide, however, showed since the 16th century always the patron saint.
