Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) German Civic Heraldry FRIESACK State : Brandenburg District (Kreis) : Havelland Origin/meaning: The arms are derived from the oldest known seal of the city, which dates from 1619. The seal already shows the castle with the eagle of Brandenburg. Friesack received city rights in 1327, but older seals are not known. All later seals show the same composition, except one seal from 1825. It showed a phoenix rising from his ashes. The meaning of this seal is not known. The upper left image shows the arms as used in the end of the 19th century, the right one the present arms. Literature : Hupp l895, 1898; Bensing, 1984
