ESCHWEILER
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
Origin/meaning: The arms show the lion of Jülich, as the village was ruled by the Dukes of Jülich. The key is the symbol of St. Peter, the patron saint of the village. The old seals of Eschweiler, known since 1469, show the lion and the key next to each other, but since the 16th century the lion holds the key.
Literature : Stadler, K. : Deutsche Wappen - Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Angelsachsen Verlag, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
