 Origin/meaning:
Ehingen received city rights in the late 13th century from the Counts of Berg, Burgau and Schelkingen. They had one of their major residences in the city, and also granted the right to mint coins.
The oldest seal dates also from the late 13th century and shows the arms of the counts, five bends of silver and red. Even though the city late became a possession of Austria (1345-1803) and Württemberg, the arms were not changed.
The present arms, however, show an additional silver bend, which was added in 1945.
