Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen)
German Civic Heraldry

DUNNINGEN

State : Baden-Württemberg
District (Kreis) : Rottweil
Additions : 1972 Lackendorf; 1974 Seedorf

Origin/meaning:
The arms were granted on March 4, 1952.
The arms are based on the arms of the family Maier von Tuningen, although later it was shown that the family had no relation with the village Dunningen, but only with Tuningen. The colours were taken from the previous, non-official, arms used since 1937. These arms showed in red a silver plough iron. As this is a very common symbol in the heraldry of Southern Germany, it was decided to design new arms in 1951.

Literature : John and Heine, 1989
