Origin/meaning: The arms are the arms of the oldest Lords of Daun, dating from the 13th century. Daun grew around the castle of the Lords of Daun and became a city in 1340. In 1354 the family became extinct and the Bishops of Trier came into possession of Daun. Consequently the seals from the 16th century and later show the cross of Trier. The present arms, which were granted this century go back to the old arms.
