Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) German Civic Heraldry BÜTTEL State : Niedersachsen District (Kreis) : Cuxhaven (until 1977 Wesermünde) Incorporated into : 1974 Loxstedt Origin/meaning: The base, showing a small hill, indicates that the village is built on an artificial hill, as protection against the sea. The pigeons are derived from a local legend. A Hake Betken from Büttel once was attacked and while dying he asked a flock of pigeons that was nearby to revenge him.
