Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) German Civic Heraldry BRUCHHAUSEN State : Niedersachsen District (Kreis) : Grafschaft Diepholz (until 1976 Grafschaft Hoya) Incorporated into: 1928 Bruchhausen-Vilsen Origin/meaning: The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the town, dating from 1551. The arms show in the right half a bear's claw, derived from the arms of the Counts of Hoya. The left half showed the arms of the local Counts of Bruchhausen. The arms were continued by the new municipality Bruchhausen-Vilsen The arms as ahown in the Kaffee Hag albums Literature : Stadler, K. : Deutsche Wappen - Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Angelsachsen Verlag, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
