 Origin/meaning:
The arms were granted in 1954 and show in th eupper part the lion of the Counts (later Dukes) of Jülich, and in the lower half the arms of the Estate of Breisig (see also Bad Niederbreisig).
The village historically belonged to the Estate of Breisig, which was ruled by a convent in Essen. In the 18th century the estate became a joined possession of the Dukes of Jülich. The latter already had much influence in the area in the 14th century, as the oldest known seal of the estate, dating from that century, already shows the lion.
The colours in the lower half are also derived from the colours of the Pfalz, as the Princes of the Pfalz owned the castle Brohleck near the village since the 14th century.
