BRECKERFELD
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen ![]()
Origin/meaning: ![]() The previous arms were granted on December 16, 1909, in slightly different colours. The chequered bar is derived from the arms of the counts of the Mark, who granted the city rights in 1396. The origin of the fleur-de-lis is not known, but is known from the seals since 1508. These arms were in use until 1970. ![]() In 1970 new arms were granted. The chequered bar remained. The garb in the upper half is derived from the medieval arms of the Lords of Altenbreckerfeld, and at the same time symbolise the importance of agriculture for the municipality. The anvil in the lower half symbolises the smithies and iron factories, which have played a major role in the local economy for many centuries. Literature : Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes; Kaffee Hag albums, new arms from Gisbert Hoffmann.
