Origin/meaning:
The arms have been used since the last century and were officially granted in 1961 and continued in 1976. The arms are based on the oldest seal of the city, which dates from the early 14th century. The second seal shows the same composition, with two letters B, one on each side of the small shield with the lion of Jülich. The Counts, later Dukes, of Jülich owned the city for a long time and granted the city rights in 1317.
