BAD BEDERKESA

Until 1997 Bederkesa

State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Cuxhaven (until 1977 Wesermünde)
Additions : 1977 Drangstedt, Elmlohe, Flögeln, Köhlen, Kurstedt, Lintig, Ringstedt

Origin/meaning:
The arms were granted in 1971 after the merger.
The key is taken from the arms of Bremen, as from 1381-1735 the town and its castle were a possession of the city of Bremen. The key was also part of the old arms of Bederkesa. The eagle is taken from the arms of Ringstedt, whereas several of th eold municipalities used either oak-leaves or a wavy bar in their arms.

The previous arms of Bederkesa were granted in 1948 and are based on the oldest known seal of the town, dating from the 18th century. The key is the key of Bremen. Before 1381 when the city became part of Bremen, it belonged to the Dukes of Sachsen-Lauenburg. In 1735 the town became part of the Kingdom of Hannover. The lion is taken from the arms of the Welfen dynasty, Kings of Hannover.

Hupp showed the arms in the 1920s in a slightly different composition :
