State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Lippe (1972-1992 Detmold, until 1972 Lemgo)
Additions : 1969 Alverdissen, Sonneborn, Selbeck, Sommersell
Origin/meaning:
Barntrup received city rights in the first half of the 14th century. The oldest seal is known since 1370 and shows the star of the Counts of Sternberg, surrounded by eight roses of Lippe. During the 16th century the star and rose were combined and in the early 17th century they were flipped horizontally. The arms were officially granted in 1971.

Emergency money of the city with the arms (1922)
