Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) German Civic Heraldry BARKENHOLM State : Schleswig-Holstein District (Kreis) : Ditmarschen Amt : Amt Kirchspielslandgemeinde Eider (until 2008 Amt KLG Hennstedt) Origin/meaning: The arms were granted on March 6, 2002. The birch leaf is a canting element, the name means birch-island. The municipality consists of two different landcapes; in the North the sandy parts and in th eSouth the marsklands. These are separated by the Broklandsau river. This geographical situation is shown in the arms. The tiles in the lower half symbolise the former 7 tile factories in the municipality.
