BAD KÖSTRITZ
State : Thüringen
District (Kreis) : Greiz
Additions :
19?? Pohlitz; 1994 Gleina, Reichardtsdorf
Origin/meaning:
The arms are based on the seal from Pohlitz dating from around 1850. The lion is the lion of the Counts and county Reuss, to which the village belonged until 1918. The shield with the two hands most likely was taken from the revolutionary arms of the Arbeiterverbrüdung (worker's brotherhood) from 1848. The meaning of the sword is not known. The city at present uses a different design, which is not in accordance to the description, which does not mention the black upper half of the lion, nor the colours of the shield, sword or hands.
